Notice of Exemption
Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 2; CA Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15302
Reasons for Exemption
IID’s Environmental team has reviewed the project and has determined that the project is exempt from further environmental analysis as a categorical exemption under the California Environmental Quality Act, California Public Resources Code Sections 21000 et seq., and specifically under section 15302 of the State CEQA Guidelines, Title 14 of the California Code of Regulations, Chapter 3. Section 15302 provides a Class 2 categorical exemption for replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced, including but not limited to the replacement or reconstruction of existing utility systems and/or facilities involving negligible or no expansion of capacity. The South Date Canal Pipeline project is located within the South Date Canal, an existing facility, and involves the pipelining of 150 linear feet of the canal (60 ft. of which are already pipelined and will be replaced). These improvements are necessary to mitigate impacts to IID facilities as a result of the bridge replacement, and involves negligible or no expansion of use of the South Date Canal.
