Document Description
The City of Weed is proposing to install new water lines to replace old, leaky, and undersized water lines. The water mains would serve existing service connections, and would not increase the capacity of the system or induce population growth. The City would install approximately 1,100' of 6" water main along Wakefield Avenue and Alameda Avenue. Additionally, 19 water services including meter and box, related fittings, valves, fire hydrants, and appurtenances will be installed in these areas. Existing water lines will be abandoned in place.

Reasons for Exemption
This project qualifies for a “common sense” exemption, a Class 2 Categorical Exemption, and statutory exemption because: 1) “the activity is covered by the general rule that CEQA applies only to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. Where it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the activity in question may have a significant effect on the environment, the activity is not subject to CEQA;” 2) the project entails replacement or reconstruction of an existing utility involving negligible or no expansion of capacity and 3) water mains would generally be constructed in public rights-of-way and are less than one mile in length.
