Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is proposing to create a disposal site for earthen material. The purpose of the project is to create an earthen disposal site for material generated during maintenance activities, slide material, and future capital projects in the area. The project is needed because the current available disposal locations are near capacity, and State Route (SR) 96 has a history of landslides needing large storage capabilities during emergency operations. The project area of impact is approximately 9 acres and has a capacity of 100,000 cubic yards. The terrain is uneven and has crevices 10 to 30 feet deep from hydraulic mining.
