Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to conduct emergency Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of butt welds on the 11th Street Bridge (Br. No. 29-0203), on State Route 205, at postmile R 3.37 in San Joaquin County. The scope of work is to clean the structural steel, spot blast clean and paint undercoat, ultrasonic testing and weld acceptance, paint structural steel, traffic control and incidental work. The purpose of this project is to comply with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Memorandum issued in December 2021 to all state Departments of Transportation, pursuant to 23 CFR 1.36, 650.313 and 650.315, to execute NDT of all butt welds in tension in the Fracture Critical Members (FCMs) fabricated from AASHTO M244 Grade 100 ASTM A514/A517 steel, commonly known as T-1 steel. The need for this project is to prevent or mitigate the loss or impairment of life, health, and property to essential public services.
