Pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1652, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved the Santa Anita Fish Passage and Bridge Installation Project submitted by Mauricio Gomez South Coast Habitat Restoration/Earth Island Institute. The primary purpose of the Project is barrier removal for fish passage. The Project will remediate the limiting factors of fish passage by removal of the existing culvert structure and installation of a new full span bridge. Project activities also include revegetation with native plants and post implementation monitoring. The species likely to primarily benefit from this Project are southern California steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) through increased access to habitat and enhanced habitat. The Project plans were designed to meet the physical and hydraulic design criteria included in the CDFW Salmonid Stream Restoration Manual, and criteria specified by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Other species that may also benefit from this Project include the California red-legged frog (Rana draytonii). The project size is 0.6 acres.
