Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) issued a Director’s Order for emergency work on State Route (SR) 175 from Post Mile (PM) 0.0 – 1.50 pertaining to damage caused by a series of storms starting on February 24, 2023. This resulted in heavy runoff from the precipitation and melting snow. A large slope failure developed on State Route (SR) 175 in Lake County, at Post Mile (PM) 0.50. Per Caltrans Geotech recommendation. the proposed solution is to stabilize the embankment with Rock Slope Protection (RSP) and restore the facility back to a safe operating condition. The scope of emergency work includes traffic control, regrading and stabilizing 1000CYof embankment, place 4000CY of RSP, install 600LF of under drain, extend existing down drains, install supplemental energy dissipaters, and place erosion control.

This emergency project involves minor slope repair(RSP), drainage repairs, stabilize embankment stabilization, and erosion control due to a natural disaster which included heavy rainfall and storms. Projects undertaken, carried out, or approved by a public agency to repair or restore an existing highway damaged by fire, flood, storm, earthquake, land subsidence, gradual earth movement, or landslide are statutorily exempt. Based on Caltrans technical studies performed, there are no significant environmental impacts.
