Document Description
Caltrans is proposing construction of a Middle-Mile Broadband Network (MMBN) project on State Route (SR) 90 from SR-39 to SR-142 in the cities of La Habra, Brea and Fullerton in Orange County. Work elements include approximately 28 miles of fiber optic conduit and 7 miles of fiber optic cable along SR-90, including appurtenances such as vaults and markers. No public utility relocations are anticipated. All channels within the project footprint are concrete box girders; any conduit must be trenched at least 5 feet below the concrete structure to avoid impacts to jurisdictional areas and no equipment will be allowed in the channel. No trenching through concrete drainage structures is allowed due to the risk to impacts to crevice dwelling creatures. The purpose of the project is to install broadband conduit and fiber as part of the MMBN Interagency Agreement between California Department of Technology and Caltrans. The need is to build out a critical statewide broadband network to enhance access to and increase affordability high-speed internet for all Californians. The Disturbed Soil Area (DSA) for the MMBN projects are equal to or greater than 1.0 acre. project is state and federally funded. All work will occur within the State right of way.
