Document Description
The proposed project is a detailed geotechnical investigation to characterize the soil and geology underlying the Russian River for a potential future sanitation infrastructure replacement project. Activities consist of drilling a six inch-diameter bore hole approximately 100 feet deep on two sites on either side of the river to obtain core samples. Due to the existing steep bank contour on one of the sites, a temporary pad would be constructed by clearing vegetation along the streambank, and grading to create an approximately 20 x 80 foot flat area for the drill rig. Material excavated would be temporarily stockpiled off-site and used to return the site to pre-construction contours after drilling is complete. A total of 416 cubic yards of material is anticipated to be excavated. Ten riparian trees with a diameter of greater than five inches are anticipated to be removed, along with several shrub thickets and small trees. Bioremediation and bank stabilization techniques would be used to stabilize the graded streambank and the site would be revegetated following construction.

The Proposed Project is located at the Summer Bridge/Vacation Beach Rd. crossing on the Russian River, approximately 1.25 miles SSW of Guerneville, CA (Figure 1), in unincorporated Sonoma County.

Reasons for Exemption
This project consists of basic data collection and resource evaluation activities that would not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. The activities are for information gathering purposes for a study leading to an action that a public agency has not yet approved, adopted, or funded. Upon completion of drilling, the site would be restored to preconstruction conditions and revegetated, therefore no serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource is anticipated.
