Document Description
The Regents acquired the 174-acre UCSB North Campus in 1994. It was encumbered with a lease for the 17.75-acre Ellwood Marine Terminal (EMT) property, a petroleum storage and distribution facility in continuous use since 1929. The Project proposes to demolish and remove existing oil storage tanks and all other onshore structures associated with the former operation of the Ellwood Marine Terminal oil and gas facilities and remediate on-site soil contamination. The project includes restoring the project site to establish new wetlands and other native habitats and provide public access trails. The total restoration is approximately less than 20 acres as shown on the Restoration Plan in the Mitigated Negative Declaration. The Project includes removal of an approximately 1,890 foot offshore loading line and associated infrastructure. The offshore portion of the project is under California State Lands Commission jurisdiction.
