Document Description
CAL FIRE would provide funding to the National Forest Foundation to protect oaks (Quercus spp.) from an invasive forest pest, the Goldspotted Oak Borer (GSOB), by the removal of oak trees that have been affected within approximately 62.5 acres of the Oak Glen Preserve. The Project is limited to identifying beetle-infected oak trees, cutting them down to ground level, and chipping the wood to keep them from spreading to other oak trees. These treatments will promote native plant and wildlife species as well as improve forest resiliency and reduce wildfire risks to local resources and community members.

Notice of Exemption
Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 4 §15304 Minor Alterations to Land
Reasons for Exemption
CAL FIRE has concluded that no significant environmental impact would occur to aesthetics, agriculture and forestland/timberland, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, geology and soils, greenhouse gas emissions, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology and water quality, land use planning, mineral resources, noise, population and housing, public services, recreation, transportation/traffic, and utility and service systems. Class 4 - Minor Alterations to Land: The project is categorically exempt from CEQA under the "Class 4" (14 CCR 15304) exemption per the CEQA Guidelines because no exception to the exemption applies and the project involves the minor alteration of the condition of land and/or vegetation and does not require the removal of healthy, mature scenic trees.
