Document Description
The Project includes removing the upper two-thirds of select riprap from 1,245 linear feet of the Merced River's bank between slightly south of Ahwahnee Bridge to Sugar Pine Bridge, 849 feet of which are below the ordinary high watermark (OHWM).The selected portion of riverbank receives high velocity flows due to the undersized Sugar Pine Bridge and the extreme horse-shoe bend in the river, consequently needing to keep a portion of the riprap closest to the river's edge to prevent severe erosion. To access the riprap safely and effectively, the Discharger will remove up to five conifer trees that have grown at the riverbank and are outcompeting riparian hardwood species, if needed. All riprap that is removed will be taken to two existing staging areas.
