Document Description
Install a new septic system to service the maintenance building at Portola Redwoods State Park to provide park employees with working restroom facilities. The existing, inoperable, septic system will be abandoned in place, and on the northeast side of the maintenance shop, work will: •Remove an existing, non-functioning, water heater shed; •Excavate an approx. 12-ft x 8-ft x 8-ft pit for the new tank and trench for inlet search to be connected by new pipe to building (approx. 667 cubic feet of soil); •Install 3-4 inches of sand in the bottom of the pit; •Install an approx. 9-ft x 5-ft x 4.5-ft (1,000 gallon) fiberglass septic tank; •Attach two (2) 18-inch-tall access extension to the tank to allow for tank cleaning; •Excavate a 3-ft x 1.5-ft x 50-ft trench and install 12, 5-ft infiltrator chambers; •Trench, as needed to install a new pipe connecting the septic tank and infiltrator chambers; •Backfill all trenches and other excavations with a combination of sand and previously excavated soil; and •Spread excess soil over site.
