Document Description
UC Davis proposes the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC) Heated Outdoor Pens project which will animal housing improvements in the South Colony at CNPRC located on the west campus. The project will replace four outdated corn crib animal enclosures for the south colony with newly constructed modular cages with an overhead shade structure. The new enclosures include the installation of heated back walls for the animals to perch on. The existing gas-powered heaters will be replaced and the new central plant hot water system will supply heat. Site preparation includes connecting to the hot water system, installing proper drainage of each structure, and upgrading an electrical panel.

The Class 1 exemption applies to the minor alteration of existing structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of an existing use. On a separate and independent basis, the project is exempt from CEQA under exemption Class 2. This exemption applies to replacement or reconstruction of existing facilities and utility systems where the new structure will be placed at the same site and have the same purpose and capacity as the structure being replaced. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project. The proposed project is consistent the Academic and Administrative land use designation of the 2018 LRDP.
