Document Description
Pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1652, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved the Weston-Champagne Cachagua Creek Fish Passage Project submitted by Paul Robins, Executive Director of the Resource Conservation District of Monterey County.
Implementation of the Project will require the clearing of 1,890 square feet of vegetation upstream and downstream of the crossing. A maximum of six arroyo willows (Salix lasiolepi) up to eight inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) will be removed, salvaged, and replanted within the project area along the channel banks. Temporary protection bumpers will be utilized to protect mature trees from construction impacts. The existing 18-foot-wide by 50-foot-long ford crossing will be demolished and removed, along with its three-foot-wide by one-foot-wide deep notched culvert. An additional 120-square-foot concrete slab will be removed from the channel on the downstream end of the Project site. Channel reconstruction will occur along approximately 180 linear feet of channel and a pool will be constructed at the downstream face of the crossing. The existing ford will be replaced with a 12-foot-wide by 45-foot-long single span pre-cast slab bridge within the same crossing alignment. 75 cubic yards concrete will compose bridge abutments and wingwalls, and 27 cubic yards concrete will compose the bridge deck. 130 cubic yards rock slope protection will be installed adjacent to abutments and wingwalls. Bridge approaches and driveway sections will consist of a six-inch layer of concrete pavement atop a six-inch layer of class II aggregate base. Drainage from upslope areas will be collected in a concrete drop inlet and conveyed by high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe to outfall onto rock slope protection. Approximately 185 linear feet of streambed will be restored with native streambed material and simulated streambed material. Revegetation includes the use of a native seed mix within disturbed areas and planting of live willow stakes along channel margins.
