Document Description
Central San operates two 2,950-hp steam-driven blowers to provide oxygen for the secondary treatment process. When one turbine is online, the other serves as its backup. In disassembling the steam turbine last year during a rebuild of the Aeration Unit #2 steam turbine, a considerable amount of damage was found in the nozzle block and throttle valve, so the Board declared an emergency situation. Also, because of the substantial wear, the existing rotor was removed and a spare rotor was installed. Central San plans to overhaul Aeration Unit #1 and expects to encounter a similar amount of damage. Other expected repairs will cause the project cost to exceed the General Manager authority limit, so Board approval of a contract amendment is being sought.
