Document Description
The project consists of removing trees along SR 36 in Tehama County, CA between PM R 73.6 - PM 82.00 to maintain safe and reliable electric service and mandated clearance to comply with federal and state regulatory requirements for public safety and fire prevention. Pacific Gas and Electric Company PG&E identified 15 trees for removals at 13 locations and 3 trees for trimming under or adjacent to the Volta 1101 12 kilovolt (kV) distribution lines in Tehama County, California inside the Caltrans ROW.
This area is a Tier 2 Elevated Fire Threat Zone. PG&E is required to maintain electrical line conductors clear from vegetation, as specified by Public Resource Code 4293 and California Public Utilities Commission General Order 95, Rule 35.
No ground disturbance is required to complete the work; herbicide use is not prescribed. All material, including wood and chips, will be hauled to the appropriate disposal site. Cleared vegetation and woody debris will be disposed of in a manner to ensure it does not enter surface water or a watercourse.
Equipment required for maintenance work will include hand-held tools (e.g., chainsaws, loppers, and hand saws), crate set, a box truck and pick-up trucks.
Traffic control may be provided by Basin Enterprises while preforming work. Areas will be accessed via existing agency roads and on foot along the power line right of way. Decommissioned roads will not be used.

The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15301 (Existing Facilities), Class 1 (Operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination), Subclass (h)—Maintenance of existing landscaping, native growth, and water supply reservoirs. The project would have no significant effect on the environment.
