Document Description
Complete the removal of historic trees at Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument that were uprooted during a storm on January 4, 2023. Historical trees numbered oak 30 and windmill palms 13 and 18 were blown down and
partially uprooted. This project will remove any remaining root balls and remove the still standing windmill palm number 16, a ‘twin’ to windmill palm number 18. Work will:
- Use a chain saw, forklift, and a skid steer to remove windmill palm number 18;
- Use a skid steer to bring in replacement trees, native soil, and compost to old tree locations for planting;
- Install new drip irrigation lines and valves; and
- Install redwood stakes and tree straps to secure the newly planted trees
