Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes immediate emergency response to storm damages that occurred on State Route (SR) 120, between Post Miles (PM) 48.7 and 49.5, in Tuolumne County. Excessive rainfall eroded embankment slopes and undermined the paved shoulders. An existing 24" Corrugated Steel Pipe culvert, at PM 48.7, was plugged with debris. The excess debris was removed from the culvert inlet, and the culvert was inspected and determined not to need replacing. Rock Slope Protection (RSP) was placed at the culvert inlet. At PM 48.8, a slope failure was addressed with temporary k-railing placed at the toe of slope, removal of loose debris, and placement of RSP. Soil and debris that washed onto the roadway was cleaned up from PM 48.7 to 49.5. The purpose of this project is to clean the culvert system and secure the slope to avoid complete roadway failure. The project is needed to prevent the loss or impairment of life, property, or essential public services.
