Document Description
BART is renewing the basic infrastructure that comprises the core of the BART system, and the project is to repair and maintain existing infrastructure essential to the safe operation of the BART system. The K-Line Project will replace and upgrade three interlockings in Oakland that are central to BART service. An interlocking is a section of track and associated signal components that allows trains to safely move between lines. The project location is within two portions of the BART railway in the median of Interstate 980 and State Route 24. The first location is between Sycamore Street and MacArthur Boulevard, and the second location is in the vicinity of Broadway and Golden Gate Avenue. The interlocking replacement construction activities (including track, special trackwork, traction power, and train control replacement) will be conducted from within the BART right-of-way. The K-Line Replacement Project will allow BART to continue to meet service demands safely and efficiently.
