Document Description
The County of Riverside Transportation Department in cooperation with the City of Coachella proposes to replace the existing Airport Boulevard Bridge over the Whitewater River (Federal Br. No. 56C-0020) with a new, wider, 2 lane bridge and reconstruct the connecting approach roadways to meet current Caltrans seismic design codes. The project would raise the bridge profile by approximately 2-3 feet in order to maintain a minimum freeboard from the flood water. The project may also include minor retaining walls in order to maintain access to the existing mobile home community on the south side of Airport Boulevard. Roadway approach improvements and sidewalk improvements on the south side of the new bridge along with future connectivity to the Coachella Valley Link Trail are proposed. Utility relocations, stormwater improvements and minor right of way acquisition, including partial acquisitions and temporary construction easements are anticipated with the project.
