Document Description
Due to high flows in Arroyo de la Laguna during the 2022-2023 winter storms, an approximately 275-foot-long road embankment along the east side of Foothill Road at Mile Marker 6.58 in Sunol eroded and failed. The proposed emergency repair to temporarily stabilize the road involves constructing an approximately 275-foot long retaining wall consisting of steel sheet piles driven into the underlying soils on the downslope side along the existing fence line. The sheet piles would be approximately 60 feet long. Due to the overhead utility obstructions, each sheet pile might need to be installed in two segments, which would be welded together during pile-driving operations. After the sheet piles are installed, the downslope lane would be repaired by excavating approximately 100 feet long by 3 feet wide by 3 feet deep, and reconstructing the pavement structural section with lightweight fill.
