Document Description
Pacific Power is planning maintenance activities on their existing 12.47 kilovolt (kV) overhead distribution lines within the city of Mt. Shasta and elsewhere in Siskiyou County. The activities are the outcome of Pacific Power's continued fire mitigation program of system hardening in California and is being conducted in accordance with the California Public Utilities Commission guidelines. Work would occur within Caltrans’ right-of-way along Interstate 5 in Siskiyou County at post mile 8.89 and would consist of reconductoring the line with a spacer cable system (i.e., wires), relocating a segment of line from existing utility poles to replacement poles (poles are outside Caltrans’ right-of-way), updating protection and other equipment as needed, and the installation of 11 new anchors and 16 new guy wires. Anchors located within Caltrans’ right-of-way would be screwed into the ground or potentially installed in a hand- or machine-dug hole up to 36 inches wide. Anchors would be installed up to 8 to 10 feet deep. No existing or replacement poles are located within Caltrans’ right-of-way. Caltrans will issue an encroachment permit (0223-6UF-0064) for work occurring within Caltrans’ right-of-way.

The project would not have a significant effect on the environment.
