Document Description
The project is located near the town of Geyserville, CA, approximately 6.8 miles East-Southeast of the fire station. The area was burned in the 2004 Geysers fire and severely burned in the 2019 Kincade Fire. This project will provide a "calming zone" for future fire activity in the area so that firefighting responses will be enhanced. Project area slopes are moderate, on a trending ridge, and aspect is all encompassing. Vegetation is primarily coast live oak, California bay-laurel, Douglas-fir, grey pine, chamise, manzanita, and associated species. Treatments will target dead and dying trees, as well as small brush and other woody fuels to discontinue fuel connectivity within the project area. Live mature trees will be treated when prescribed by a Registered Professional Forester. Treatments may take place either utilizing hand crews or mechanized equipment, and may include mastication or pile burning. The project area has been surveyed for sensitive environmental features by a Registered Professional Forester and a Professional Archaeologist, and the project will avoid impacts to identified resources.
