Document Description
The proposed of the proposed MSWD Well #22 Rehabilitation Project is to enhance the efficiency of groundwater production at this well and return its level of groundwater production to its original volume. The proposed rehabilitation will include rehabilitation of the existing well casing and pump equipment; installation of new electrical equipment; installation of a new chlorination facility, and other support changes. All of the above proposed activities will occur within the footprint of existing disturbed areas at the Well #22 site.

Reasons for Exemption
The State CEQA Guidelines provide a series of Categorical Exemptions for projects that have been deemed to have minimal impacts on the environment. The proposed rehabilitation of Well #22 Project has been determined to have no potential to cause significant adverse effects on the environment and will ensure the facility continues to function at higher efficiency and as originally designed. Categorical Exemption Class I exempts “operation, repair, maintenance. or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities and mechanical equipment...involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination.” (b) Existing facilities of both investor and publicly owned utilities used to provide electric power, natural gas, sewerage, or other public utility services. The exceptions to the issuance of Categorical Exemptions have been evaluated for the proposed project activities. The proposed Project has been determined not to have a potential to cause significant adverse environmental effects as a result of any of the exceptions. Therefore, this proposed action is not forecast to cause any potential for significant adverse environmental impacts and qualifies with the requirements for Class 1 exemption.
