Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes immediate replacement of a damaged culvert system on westbound State Route (SR) 120 at post mile 0.96 in Tuolumne County. On 12/31/2022 a high intensity rainstorm caused debris to wash down North Fork Wildcat Creek and partially blocked the existing culvert. The blockage resulted in a severely eroding embankment slope and undermined the paved shoulder. The adjacent lane to the undermined shoulder was closed to the traveling public. A State of Emergency was declared by Governor Newsome on 01/04/23. The scope of work includes replacing the existing 96” Corrugated Steel Pipe (CSP) with a 7’ by 7’ Concrete Box Culvert, replacing the headwalls, stabilizing the embankment and roadway structure, and placing Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA). All work will occur within Caltrans Right of Way. The purpose of this project is to immediately rectify structural and drainage damages caused by the extreme storm event. The project is needed to prevent the loss or impairment of life, property, or essential public services.
