Document Description
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is proposing to install four monitoring wells in Bishop, CA and south of Diaz Lake, CA. T986 will be located north of Highway 395 and west of Brockman Lane. T987 will be located northeast of the Alabama Hills and east of Highway 395. T988 will be located southwest of Bishop, CA, west of Schober Lake. T989 will be located east of the Alabama Hills, and northwest of Owens Lake. These monitoring wells will be used to monitor groundwater elevations in the underlying aquifers. The exact depth of each well will be determined after reviewing the lithological and geophysical logs obtained from pilot boreholes. The screen and casing of each monitoring well will be a 3-inch diameter polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe. The work area will be approximately 100 ft by 100ft, and laydown will be restricted to existing compacted roads and turnouts.

In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, this project is Categorically Exempt from CEQA review pursuant to Section 15306, Class 6, consists of basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities that do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. These may be strictly for information gathering purposes, or as part of a study leading to an action which a public agency has not yet approved, adopted, or funded. The proposed project meets the requirements of this exemption; therefore, no further CEQA review is required.
