Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to improve safety, operations, and mobility on State Route 16 (SR 16) in Sacramento County at the Eagles Nest Road intersection from post mile (PM) 10.21 to 10.65. The purpose of this project is to reduce the number and severity of collisions involving vehicles at the intersection of SR 16 and Eagles Nest Road in the county of Sacramento. The project is needed due to collisions being three times higher than the Total State Average Collision Rate for similar facility. A total of 14 collisions were reported for this intersection from 1/1/2016 to 1/28/2021, including on fatality and 8 other collisions that resulted in injuries to a total of 25 people. Caltrans proposes to install a new 4-way traffic signal on SR 16 at Eagles Nest Road. The project will also widen the roadway to provide additional 12-foot through lanes and 8-foot shoulder in both directions approaching and departing the intersection.
