Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 6, California Code of Regulations, title 14, Section 15306 (Information Collection)
Reasons for Exemption
The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with section 15306 INFORMATION COLLECTION. Class 6 consists of basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities which do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. These may be strictly for information gathering purposes, or as part of a study leading to an action which a public agency has not yet approved, adopted, or funded. Project construction requires subsurface investigations to determine soil and site conditions by drilling vertical borings to collect soil samples for laboratory testing and analysis. The purpose of this subsurface investigation is to provide engineering soil properties and to evaluate the current site conditions for design of the culvert replacement.
