Document Description
The work includes a minimum of thirty-six hollow-stem dry auger borings, with thirty-four borings on the levee crown to a depth of 20 feet and spaced approximately 200 to 300 feet apart, and two borings in the levee toe roads to a depth of 10 feet located approximately 2,000 feet east of the Sutter Bypass East Levee connection. If the borings in the crown come back positive for cultural deposits, the UAIC has requested that up to twelve additional auger borings be placed in the landside and waterside toe roads to better assess the cultural deposits. Additionally, five sonic geotechnical borings are proposed for the construction contractor to collect representative soil samples for use in conducting bench scale cutoff wall mix design testing. These borings will be located at intervals along the project length, drilling to a depth of 80 feet, approximately 10 feet below the deepest cutoff wall tip elevation.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 4, Minor Alterations to Land categorical exemption (CEQA California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 14, Section 15304), because the activity consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of mature, scenic trees except for forestry and agricultural purposes.
