Document Description
The Project is limited to the repair of a 70 linear foot slip out approximately 0.2 miles up Hopkins Gulch Road. The Project will remove debris as a result of the slip out including man-made debris such as pavement, rock slope protection (RSP), and trash, and vegetation that interferes with construction access. A new 60-foot long soldier pile wall will be installed west (downslope) of the roadway. A six-inch plastic pipe wall down drain will be installed to drain materials behind the new wall. The pipe will outlet into a 6 foot by 4 foot by 1.5 foot rock slope protection energy dissipator.

Reasons for Exemption
This Project involves repairs to an existing public roadway for the purpose of improving public safety and involves no expansion of existing use. On January 23, 2017, Governor Brown declared the storms that hit California in December of 2016 and January of 2017 created a state of emergency in Santa Cruz County. This project will repair failures along Hopkins Gulch Road that occurred during and as a result of the declared emergency.
