Document Description
The SJFD herbicide program is an annual maintenance activity that the field division uses to control the growth of unwanted vegetation within the field division. To accomplish this, pre-emergent herbicide is sprayed along both sides of the California aqueduct access roads, and around structures and buildings. This is accomplished using a spray rig mounted onto a pickup. In total, it takes around 3 months to spray the entire field division. Spot treatments are periodically sprayed, as needed, throughout the year. Plant debris (mainly tumbleweed) is removed and burned. Plant debris is removed using a back-hoe and loaded onto a dump truck. The dump truck transports the debris to one of the various burn sites located throughout the SJFD. The amount of plant debris removed and burned varies depending on the time of the year. The SJFD herbicide program is critical in meeting aqueduct visibility, accessibility, and drainage requirements, as well as to protect the structural integrity of aqueduct embankments and structures.
