Document Description
The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Coast Water Board) adopted this amendment to the Water Quality Control Plan for the Central Coastal Basin establishing Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for turbidity in the Gabilan Creek watershed, Monterey County (Basin Plan Amendment). This Basin Plan amendment identifies the parties responsible for achieving pollutant load reductions and establishes an implementation strategy to restore water quality. TMDLs are a requirement of the federal Clean Water Act. Waterbodies assigned TMDLs in this Basin Plan amendment include Alisal Creek, Alisal Slough, Espinosa Slough, Gabilan Creek, Merritt Ditch, Natividad Creek, Old Salinas River, Salinas Reclamation Canal, and Tembladero Slough. The Central Coast Water Board is relying on existing regulatory measures (i.e., the Agricultural Order and stormwater NPDES permits), as well as nonpoint source implementation plans and policies, to ensure implementation actions are carried out by the responsible parties.
