Document Description
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy would provide funding for the Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance (SORA) to collaboratively plan for sustainable recreation in the region encompassing south Siskiyou County and northwest Shasta County to meet the existing and growing recreational needs of the region. The project will establish a collaborative planning process that engages land management agencies, private landowners, outdoor recreation and economic development organizations, local businesses, tribes, community members, and governments. The project will collaboratively envision and create a plan to connect the communities of Mt. Shasta, Dunsmuir, McCloud, and Weed by multi-use trails to build equitable, resilient, sustainable, and vibrant outdoor recreation economies. Specific activities include public engagement through surveys, community town hall meetings, quarterly collaborative meetings, existing conditions data collection and analysis, and the creation of a sustainable recreation committee. A project prioritization matrix will be developed to identify recommendations for development of trails and recreation infrastructure, an economic impact study report and master plan will be created, and CEQA analysis will be completed on a priority trail project.
