Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Categorical Exemption, Class 1 and 2, CEQA Guidelines Section 15301, 15302
Reasons for Exemption
The University has determined that the action is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under CEQA Guidelines Sections 15301 (existing facilities with negligible or no expansion of use) because the project consists of improvements to an existing hospital building with no expansion of use. The improvements and replacement building would be located on the same site as the existing hospital, would continue to provide medical services, would not increase the existing square footage, and would result in fewer patient beds. On a separate and independent basis, the proposed project is also exempt under CEQA Guidelines Section 15302 (Replacement or Reconstruction) because it consists of demolition and reconstruction of interior spaces, replacement of the non-structural exterior building skin, replacement of the West building, and improvements to the existing circulation system. The determination that the project is categorically exempt is based upon information contained in the record. No exceptions to the exemptions pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2 apply.
