Document Description
Project will create an area to receive and store rock for road work in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park as well as other large deliveries of items to reduce the number of times road maintenance materials need to be delivered, thereby reducing the costs and greenhouse gas emissions created by trucking materials. Work will: • Use an excavator and a combination of mowing/brush-cutting to remove all existing vegetation in the project area and excavate approximately 6 to 24 inches deep to level and prepare the surface; • Collect the removed vegetation into on-site piles and use it to mulch bare soils to prevent sediment from leaving the site; • Excavate for two (2) 6-inch diameter by 30-foot-long culverts placed within the inboard ditch and cover with gravel to facilitate equipment ingress and egress; • Use an excavator, grader, backhoe, bobcat and/or roller to spread ¾ -inch gravel throughout the entire site and compact; • Conduct efforts to repopulate Harlequin lotus along the eastern edge of the project area; and • Once in operation, inspect the storage yard and gravel piles once a year for invasive plant species and treat yearly to prevent the spread of invasive seed or plant species.
