Reasons for Exemption
The Cerritos Department of Public Works/Water & Power determined that the project is exempt from CEQA review, pursuant to Sections 15302, 15303, and 15311 of the CEQA Guidelines. Specifically, CEQA's Guideline's Article 19, Categorical Exemptions, Section 15302, Class 2, addresses those exemptions related to the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced. Section 15303, Class 3, addresses those exemptions related to the construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities or structures. For example, Subdivision (e) in Section 15303 provides that accessory structures are categorically exempt. Section 15311, Class 11, addresses those exemptions related to the construction or placement of minor structures accessory to existing institutional facilities. For example, Subdivision {a) in Section 15311 provides that on-premise signs are categorically exempt.
