he San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) proposes the Jones Street Quick-Bui!d Project (proposed project), which would permanently continue pedestrian safety improvements that were temporarily implemented on Jones Street (between Geary and Turk streets) in San Francisco as part of the SFMTA Department Operations .Center (DOC) COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Street Changes Program (San Francisco Planning case number 2020-006458ENV) Specifically, the proposed project would permanently continue a temporary lane reduction that converted Jones Street from three southbound travel lanes to two southbound travel lanes, including continuing the associated removal or addition of turn lanes. The proposed project would also implement additional pedestrian safety improvements, such as painted pedestrian safety zones, on Jones Street between Ellis Street and Golden Gate Avenue.

This project in its approved form has been determined to be exempt from environmental review because it meets the criteria for a statutory exemption under Public Resources Code section 21080.25. The SFMTA, a public agency would implement pedestrian facilities within an existing public right of way in an urbanized area; would not exceed the cost of one hundred million dollars in 2020 United States Dollars and would be constructed by SFMTA Field shops and would not require the use of contractors for labor.
