Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Streambed Alteration Agreement (EPIMS-SDO-37819-R5), pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, to the project Applicant, County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation. The project proposes to construct a bridge approximately 530 feet from the entrance to the Mt. Woodson Gateway County Preserve. In its current condition, the stream crosses under the existing road through a 36-inch-diameter pipe culvert and makes a 90 degree turn just after exiting the culvert. The channel width is greater than the culvert diameter both up- and down-stream of the crossing. Project activities include removing the existing culvert and associated fill material; widening the channel and recontouring the banks to match the up-and down-stream bank contours and eliminate the 90-degree bend; and installing a prefabricated 50-foot-long bridge on concrete bridge abutments that will be constructed above the top-of-bank of the stream. Gabion mattresses will be installed along the recontoured banks upstream of and under the bridge, and rock slope protection will be installed downstream of the gabion along the western bank. The bed of the stream will remain native substrate, except that two 3-foot-wide gabion structures will be installed perpendicular to flows to stabilize the bed under the bridge and 6 linear feet of riprap will be installed at the upstream end of the channel recontouring. These structures will occupy a total of 0.014 acre of the bed and banks of the recontoured stream.
