The purpose of the project is to construct a new maintenance station mechanic shop with upgrades in size, condition, and electrical capacity to improve working conditions for mechanics and the efficiency of equipment repair that meets today's standards.

The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be covered under by the Common Sense exemption 15061(b)(3). The activity is covered by the common sense exemption that CEQA apples only to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. Where it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the activity in question may have a significant effect on the environment, the activity is not subject to CEQA. Caltrans has determined that this project does not fall within an exempt class, but can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the activity may have a significant effect on the environment.
