Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) issued an Emergency Director’s Order to address the damages caused by a watermain rupture. This project is located in Humboldt County on U.S. Highway 101 from post mile (PM) 78.70 to 79.70. On July 28, 2022, a stray vehicle struck a fire hydrant causing a 10-inch watermain to rupture beneath the roadway. Water from the ruptured pipe created a sinkhole in the left southbound lane and shoulder. The purpose of this project is to repair the damaged roadway and sidewalk. This project is needed to prevent or mitigate the loss or impairment of life, health, property, and essential public services. The scope of work includes traffic control, roadway construction, repair/replace pavement, restore/replace sidewalks, cleaning of the drainage inlets, and striping/delineation of the roadway. The project is state funded only. All work will occur within the Caltrans right of way.
