The new bridge will be located 10 feet to the south of the existing bridge and will be longer, to allow for construction outside of the stream bed. Work will: • Set up tarps beneath the existing structure to capture falling debris; • Attach rigging to surrounding trees to assist in the removal and placement of materials; • On either side of the creek, excavate to install 10 foot long, 3 foot deep and 10-inch-high concrete (rebar reinforced) mud sills; • Excavate for four (4) 25 feet long by 1 foot wide by 6 inches deep footings on either side of the creek to construct ramp approaches at either end of the bridge for an even linear grade trail alignment; • On the east (left) bank, excavate to install a 12 foot long by 3 foot deep by 2-foot-high cribbed abutment to level the bridge site; • Use the overhead rigging to lift the new stringers into place and attach decking and rails to the superstructure; • Remove and dismantle the old bridge, remove any hardware from untreated redwood and scatter the untreated redwood across the forest floor, out of view; and • Remove treated wood and the hardware from the site and dispose of at the maintenance yard and disassemble the rigging and pack out from the site.
