Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 1 Culvert Inspection Team identified a failed culvert on U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) at PM 114.99 in Humboldt County on February 8, 2022. Field Maintenance was unable to perform routine cleaning of the culvert due to the risk of further undermining the structural integrity of US 101 and causing a collapse in the roadway above the culvert. The proposed solution is to remove and replace the failed culvert. The repair is anticipated to take 7-10 working days. The purpose of this project is to keep the roadway safely open to the public and repair the location to pre damage conditions. The project is necessary to prevent or mitigate the loss or impairment of life, health, property and essential services.
