Document Description
The purpose of the Project is to maintenance dredge approximately 780 cubic yards of accumulated sediment from the North Tahoe Public Utility District Marina and entrance channel on the subject parcels. Low lake levels and accumulated sediment have rendered the marina and boat ramp unusable by watercrafts. The marina will be dredged from the shoreline to approximately 154 feet lakeward of the existing marina breakwater at a width range of 48 feet to 83 feet wide to a historic lake bottom elevation of 6,221 feet Lake Tahoe Datum. The Site Plan, which displays the Project and dredging area, is provided as Enclosure 1. The Project will allow the Applicant to reopen the marina and boat ramp to provide watercraft access to Lake Tahoe.
The Project will employ a mechanical dredging method. A tracked, long arm, excavator equipped with a one cubic yard bucket will be used to remove sediment from the marina and entrance channel. The bucket will be marked with a line to ensure a consistent dredging depth. In the marina, the excavator will operate on above-water sandbars or from an amphibious barge, depending on water levels at the time of dredging. In the entrance channel, the excavator will operate from an amphibious barge that will temporarily anchor to the lakebed. A double turbidity curtain will be installed around the dredging area to prevent turbid water from discharging to Lake Tahoe.
