The project is categorically exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15301(e), Existing Facilities, because the project qualifies under subsection (e)(1) which exempts projects consisting of an addition to an existing structure that will not result in an increase of more than 50% of the floor area of the structure before the addition, or a total of 2,500 square feet, whichever is less. The size of the proposed addition is 1,485 square feet which is equivalent to a 41% increase in the total building area.
