Document Description
The proposed activity will take place on a perpetual wetland conservation easement held by USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service. This project involves the rehabilitation of a small three feet tall, 1,700 feet wide diversion structure which is currently in a state of disrepair with numerous breaches and cracked concrete. Repairs will include the creation of wetlands as a source of fill material, which will be placed on either side of the current structure with tapered slopes. Water control structures consisting of 36-inch and 48-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, anchored by precast concrete risers will be installed. Spillways will be built on the outer edges of the dam and will handle high flows once capacity is exceeded. The spillways will be armored with concrete articulated mats for erosion protection and to allow for vegetation growth. The new wetlands will be contoured to mimic the natural floodplain and re-vegetated with on-site native sod material to restore impacted habitat. One of the water control structures will be installed along with a new swale for the purpose of improving aquatic organism passage. The new structure will be approximately the same height and width of the original structure.
