Document Description
The City of Laguna Beach Public Works Department is proposing the Bluebird Canyon Drive Evacuation Route Widening Project. Bluebird Canyon Drive is a key evacuation route, and the Project proposes to widen the road to improve emergency vehicular egress. This need for an egress route in this location is identified in the City’s Wildfire Mitigation and Fire Safety Report, approved by the City Council in 2019. The proposed Project would address the needs by constructing a new wood lagging retaining wall with drilled concrete caissons, engineered fill, paving, metal beam guard rail, drainage modifications, and landscaping improvements on the north side of Bluebird Canyon Drive. The construction duration is estimated to be approximately eight months to complete. Typical construction methods would be employed (e.g., clearing and grubbing, cast-in-drilled hole foundations, retaining walls, new asphalt pavement construction, earthwork and grading, and street improvements). Construction is expected to commence in late 2022 and be completed by the end of 2023.
