Document Description
The Dixie Fire burned over 960,000 acres of land, almost half of which burned at high severity, resulting in large areas of 100 percent tree mortality, which impacted these forest health projects. This project would reforest approximately 9,206 acres of Sierran mixed conifer forest that experienced 75-100 percent tree mortality following the Dixie Fire. The proposed project includes replanting of native conifer species in the headwaters of the Feather River Watershed, which is the source of the California State Water Project. This project will help restore the headwaters of the Feather River Watershed and critical habitat for many sensitive species, protect the public and local communities from future wildfires, increase aesthetics to help with local tourism, and will create safer road conditions used by the USDA Forest Service and the public for accessing public lands and other recreational opportunities.
