Document Description
The Coffee Center project will renovate the building formerly known as the Advanced Materials Research Laboratory (AMRL). The project renovates approximately 7,600 gross square feet of storage and laboratory spaces designed to meet the needs of pre- and post-harvest coffee science research as well as support space including offices, conference room, restrooms, and general circulation space for the facility. Exterior improvements include new ADA parking, improved pathways and accessible path of travel, bicycle parking, gathering space, landscaping, and shade structure.

Reasons for Exemption
The renovation existing space qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1 of the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This exemption applies to the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of an existing use. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project. The proposed project is consistent the Academic and Administrative land use designation of the 2018 LRDP.
