Document Description
CAL FIRE would provide funding to the Butte County Fire Safe Council to conduct fuel reduction treatments and biomass removal as part of the Coutolenc Strategic Fuels Reduction Project. Treatments include masticating dead and dying trees 10” Diameter Breast Height (DBH) and under, and cutting, chipping, and removing dead and dying trees up to 24” DBH to a biomass or other alternative waste facility, and planting native tree species. These treatments will reduce wildfire risks to local resources and community members, promote native plant and wildlife species, and improve forest resiliency.

CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction projects undertaken on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed in its entirety under NEPA through the NEPA Camp Fire Salvage and Reforestation CX# DOI-BLM-CAN060-2019-0028-CX process.
