Document Description
DWR staff will perform maintenance along the South Bay Aqueduct. A backhoe and hand tools will be used to excavate erosions to remove any existing gravel or soil with poor structure. Soil around the excavation will be compacted and prepared for backfill with clean fill hauled in by dump truck and placed in open excavation. A water truck will be used to wet soils during compaction and for dust mitigation. A compaction wheel on the backhoe will be used to compact the soil in place. Staging will be on existing roadways and parking lots. All work is within DWR right of way.

The State Water Project provides significant and critical services to many Californians. This project is exempt because it involves routine maintenance activities. This project will not result in impacts to special status species or habitat. The Categorical Exemption Class 1 will be used for CEQA compliance as this activity will be implemented without any significant environmental impacts.
